In a world where political affairs allow a handful of powerful people to create truth for a price, one man struggles with the worth of his soul while another man struggles with the reality of what he knows. The Centurion is the story of these two men.
To gain his eternal freedom, Marcus, the Centurion soldier who crucifies Jesus and then confesses that, “surely this was the Son of God,” follows this new conflicting truth to discover if what he has just confessed is in fact his new worth. As a result of this curiosity he is accused of treason, exiled as a citizen of Rome and shipped off to an island to spend the rest of his days.
Lucius, the Centurion regiment commander and closest comrade of Marcus, refuses to go along with his friend’s new pursuit of this man they crucified. However, by association, he has been found guilty of the same treason and is exiled along with Marcus and Justin to his new home. Lucius battles to hang on to the life he has always known as a Roman citizen, Centurion commander, and loyal follower of Caesar.
With no hope of going back to Rome, Marcus embraces his new life as a Child of God, and tries to saves Lucius’ life in the process. Lucius still holding on to what he knows refuses to accept this new life and believes that one day he will return to Rome and the life that he loves. He hopes his friend will come to his senses.
The Centurion is about a battle that is alive today in all of us. Those who experience the love of God have no choice but to pursue this new truth about who they are and what their soul is worth. Those who refuse to believe in the redemptive work of Jesus on the cross will continue to pursue the life that has given them their identity. The question to all is, “which Centurion do you want to be?”
