The Original Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand was established in 1862 in New Orleans in the French Market. It has been around so long it makes Starbucks look like a start up! It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It closes only on Christmas Day and on the day an occasional Hurricane passes too close to New Orleans. I have been there twice, including 1:30 am last night, this morning.

These are some photos I took of the Lower 9th Ward here in New Orleans (ariel shot of neighborhood). This is where the barge slammed into the levee several times during Hurricane Katrina, weakening it with every blow until it finally broke through and flooded, NO, demolished an entire community. Only the homes built of brick still stand with a shell of a structure. Everything else was completely wiped out. That was 2 years, 3 months ago and people are STILL living in FEMA trailers!!!
This was a sobering experience to go through this neighborhood. Some people are starting to build new homes on their lots. Their is a great sense of strength and hope yet frustration in the people of NOLA. I spoke to the lady who has the sign in her yard, you'll see it in the photo album. She is still pissed at the government because they have not released funds to help the victims like her rebuild her home. Read her sign and hear her story. Imagine this is your story. I did. We went to the Po-Boy Festival last night here in NO. I kept my distance while Devin held this python.
Heading down to New Orleans for the week. After traveling every week for the last two months I am looking forward to getting away with my family and resting, serving, eating some cajun food and hanging out with Mike and Chad and their familys! Oh by the way, we're driving.....14 hours.....leaving tomorrow morning at 5:00am!
It's been two years since I have had a real vacation. So I'm taking off. I'm going to Washington (that's State for all you Mid-West and East Coast folks!). I'm at my mom's house now, who I haven't seen in 2 years along with my Grandma who is 83 years young! I'll see my Dad, brothers, sister and niece and nephews. We are also going to stop at our favorite winery, Portteus (por-t-us), in Zillah, WA and pick up some of the best Cabernet you will ever drink! (The picture above is of their vineyard). Maybe we'll bring some home....if it last that long (I am on vacation you know).
Then we're going to spend some time up in Bellingham at Brenda's sister's house...sitting out on a lake, eating, waterskiing, swimming and sleeping. I'm also looking forward to spending a lot of time playing with my kids!
For my dear friends that are back in Illinois. Feel free to use our pool anytime you want while we are gone....but don't get the floor wet!
I walked under an Eiffel Tower as I made my way to my room in Paris this afternoon.
I will be here in Vegas until Thursday at KBIS.
